    This is the best advice.

It's best to assume everything you do online (phone included!) is recorded and can be traced back to you.

then as a forum provider, in order to adhere to the new law, isn't it logical to then just block all users from Tor network ?

What exactly is the new law though, and why are some users claiming that holding personally identifiable information is necessarily in any law whatsoever?

I’m of the view that cooperating with the authorities to the extent legally necessary is a given, but information about what sorts of information is in the possession of the administrator or what steps can be taken to insulate oneself is not necessarily a verboten discussion unless decided by the administrators themselves.

If you don’t have information to give, surely that’s not necessarily illegal.

I otherwise agree that the major responsibility is on the user side, but the hypothetical discussion has already been illuminating on the views of various participants and the site.

Geo already blocks most Tor exit nodes and VPN providers

IP address if and when you register and post + email address for obvious reasons.

Some amount of logging and checking is done in the background based on user's browser / country - but again, it is only done on registration and posting on here and handed off to US based services - mostly used to identify threats (spam/scam/DDOS/bots).

Data stored here would be pretty much the same as anyone who uses vbulletin which is a very very common messaging board tool.
If the admin of the website wants to change whats recorded they would need to be able to code, or hire people to code to change what data is collected or obfuscated, that's provifding they are nto using the hosted solution which would not give you access to modify the code.

The company that is hosting the domain and servers would also collect a bunch of information beyond the control of the admin.

Let's just say it would be nice if forums have some measures to prevent information to get to the bad guys. Everyone can decide for themselves and could have different opinions on who those bad guys are.

It's good to know that in this case, there are no such measures, and you should assume that everything you post here is essentially under your own name (as on any social media).

FWIW, if you want to post here using VPN, you can currently do that by connecting to the US.

    That sounds a little menacing
