Australia: "Safe Haven" Visa / Govt Actions

Australia is set to offer safe haven visas to Hong Kong residents as the Chinese territory is consumed by another wave of protests and arrests over new national security laws imposed by Beijing.

The move will make Australia the second of the Five Eyes partners to offer Hong Kong residents refuge...
    And from the article:

PM Scott Morrison: "There are proposals that I asked to be brought forward several weeks ago and the final touches will be put on those and they'll soon be considered by Cabinet to provide similar opportunities"

Suddently HKers have many options to choose from, NSL is not that bad after all..
Middle class HKers with transferable skills or those who can 'retire' on their accumulated wealth.

In a conversation with a neighbour - 'tax treatment' was a bigger issue in their mind. "We have not worked so hard in HK to give up our money in taxes".

Hong Kong is also home to the second largest group of Australian expatriates in the world, with more than 100,000 living in the semi-autonomous region.
I did not realise there was that many in HK.

I wonder if they will put conditions on which State/ City/ Town they are permitted to invigorate the property market and dwindling school student population?

I know plenty of people from Singapore and Hong Kong who did not proceed with moving to Australia because they did not want their kids to be worse off by not being in either Sydney or Melbourne. Both of these cities already being of less global/ regional importance than Singapore or Hong Kong.

I suspect there is a large xBC population included in these stats.

Aren't the most violent protesters supposed to come from the poorer areas of HK (i.e. Wong Tai Sin)? If so I am not sure they have the money to afford these Visas.

Even a flat in most of the poorer areas is worth at least a million AUD

I don't think the average Aussie and those who skilled migrants who wait for an year or longer will be pleased if hkers are allowed to jump the queue. More likely they'd be relegated to regional Aus which may not be as appealing to many anyways.

In other news, Just heard on the radio that there will be repercussions for those who flee using their bno, possibly would have their properties in hk seized and hksar passport cancelled

    Conundrums galore

Lol, that's gonna do wonders for the property and stock market. How would that even work? Let me guess, bit was either Junius Ho or the Broomhead who said that.
