Depends on how many tests are being done. Based on Professor Cowling's comments yesterday R0 should now be below 1 and the peak was last week, with an estimate of 4-6 weeks for cases to return to near zero again if all goes well.

it seems todays fun debates were about a woman who decided to go out shopping when confimed positive but before they arrived to take her to hospital and a bunch of cases in a direct marketing basement which had a training centre for 100+ people and now several positives.....

Apparently, so far elderly care homes have been the source of a third of infections.

Given that these are the people we are trying to protect, this is bad. But WHY so many? Do they make up a third of the population of HK? Are they particularly susceptible (especially given measures taken to try and minimise spread)?

    I posit another theory.

Elderly people are more likely to show symptoms and die of the disease. So the case THAT WE HAVE FOUND tend to involve more elderly people because they are the ones that become obvious. Younger people just think they have had a cold (or nothing). Which makes me think there is a heck of a lot more community transmission than we have found to date. These social distancing measures will either need to be here a long while, or we need to just learn to live with it (per the very sensible opinion piece in the SCMP today).

    + 100 !

Economy must be restarted ... gradually as Hong Kongers are comparatively mature and can follow precautions better than the West !

It’s actually not that complicated. You have a bunch of people confined in a single location, who are attended upon by staff/carers that come and go from the outside world on a daily basis. Once someone brings the virus inside, by the time symptoms start showing, it’s too late to do much about it as it’s spread across the whole place. The same phenomenon has occurred in aged care facilities and prisons around the world. You have a captive population who can’t socially distance and at the mercy of what the outside staff bring inside.
