    Canucks in Hong Kong

We know already of Canadians being held for espionage up North. Now seems the ones in Hong Kong are open to similar investigatory treatment.

Worrying times for anyone on this forum.

I do not think Canadians are in trouble in HK. Its allot of sabre rattling from China because they are still not happy with the detention of Meng Wanzhou in her home. China is trying to rattle the Canadian government to release her which Justin Trudeau will not take part of.

That's the CCP's response to every slight. They've threatened the HK chinese and their family taking the BNO, they've threatened the UK for extending it, they've threatened Australia, they're threatening to invade Taiwan. They're constantly threatening the US.

If you haven't been threatened by the CCP, you're clearly doing something wrong.

Toby Guu, a Canadian, was threatened by violent protesters. The ambassador has a point. He's not threatening anyone.

“If the Canadian side really cares about the stability and prosperity in Hong Kong, and really cares about the good health and safety of those 300,000 Canadian passport holders in Hong Kong, and a large number of Canadian companies operating in Hong Kong, you should support those efforts to fight violent crimes.”
It could be read that he meant that supporting political asylum for violent protesters is encouraging 'violent crimes' and therefore making Hong Kong less safe for Canadians. However, interesting that he didn't elaborate or explain when asked about this and just said 'that is your interpretation'

I could try to look up the number of Canadian Passport holders injured by HK police action which many believe disproportionate and somewhat confirmed by the refusal to hold any independent inquiry which would surely exonerate police action if there was not disproportionate force.

    This Toby Guu?

He said afterwards he supported Hongkongers “fighting for their freedom”

First if you compared the number of people threatened by violent protesters vs the number of people threatened by violent police thugs, there really is no comparison.

Second, it's not for China to decide who might be deserving of asylum from a corrupt authoritarian regime. As usual, they are trying to bully, threaten and interfere to discourage a country from implementing their policy as they have done on the case of Meng Wanzhou.

Canada is a better place for welcoming skilled, educated hard working people that believe in democracy and I hope that not only do they extend asylum to worthy candidates but also make it easier for those who would want to join the already substantial number of HK people in Canada.
