    What is 'vote'?

I was born and lived overseas through my dad I've always had 3* status and have always known that I needed to come back every 3 years to keep it.

The only way to lose perm residence:
    1) If you are born in HK and chinese by race. Settle down in another country and gain citizenship. You lose HK Perm Residence.
    2) If you are a foreigner gained HK Perm Residence status but have left HK over 3 yrs. You lose HK Perm Residence status.

With PR, are you able to maintain your HK capital gains tax status, provided your investments are in HK accounts?

UK has th ISA wrapper which is good, but most countries don't have anything comparable

That depends more on the country you are residing in, doesn't it?

Fair point, but suppose you're not in a very developed, yet high tax beaurocracy, for example Thailand, as opposed to say USA or UK.

As long as HK law permits you to retain your HK tax status, obviously not on earnings outside HK, then it should be kosher.

I think the question is, does a HK PR have same tax status as a HK citizen?

And yeah who knows in future China may revoke this and bring HK into China's global tax scheme, and with China tax brackets too!

Is it that you just need to enter HK, as in every 3 years you could be visiting Thailand, but make a 2 night stopover at the Peninsula to enjoy the yum cha, and then you are covered for the next 3 years?

Thanks, maybe to put it in a more cynical way, you're country of residence may not need to know what assets you have in a HK, or say a Jersey account.
