The highly aligned pro-government comments in this SCMP article are particularly ill-informed and vulgar.
Maybe I missed it, but what are the statistics on the cases around the Jordan cluster? How many total have been infected compared to other clusters?
https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/compone...2-20210125.htmEarlier, the Health Secretary, Sophia Chan, said the lockdown had been effective and that the government might enforce lockdowns in other districts.
"We will review the cases, we will look at the criteria and also the considerations - including public health considerations, the number of confirmed cases, plus the environmental factors, " she said.
Govt press release highlights:
The Government implemented this compulsory testing with a human-centred approach. In order to ensure the arrangement of three meals for persons subject to compulsory testing, the Government provided many kinds of food for them, including 6 500 food packs (with instant noodles, pasta, canned food, etc), 13 000 cup noodles, 9 100 soup packs (pork or chicken), about 15 600 fruits, 9 000 cakes, 9 000 packs of soy milk, 8 000 cans of pork ham or tuna fish with easy-to-open covers, 4 000 cans of corn, 2 000 packs of instant noodles and 6 500 packs of bread. One box of masks, some cleaning tools, hand sanitizers, etc. were also provided to persons subject to compulsory testing to help them fight against the virus.
Aunties reminded not to go there for their dancing classes...During the effective period of the declaration, about 7 000 persons underwent testing. As at midnight of January 25, 13 confirmed cases were found. Persons with confirmed cases and their relevant close contacts have been transferred to quarantine centres or hospitalised for treatment.
https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/...1012500087.htmThe Government understands that residents in the district are worried and anxious because of the increase in confirmed cases in recent days. Under the epidemic, businesses in the area have been hit hard and brought to a standstill. Residents’ livelihood are also affected. The Government hopes this temporary inconvenience will completely cut the local transmission chains in the district and ease residents' worries and fear, so that they will regain confidence in resuming social and business activities in the area, and return to a normal life.
Sorry, I mean pre lockdown.
like was this cluster that severe to warrant a lockdown as opposed to other clusters? Or was this just a test to see how they can implement a lockdown since that Jordan area is one of the largest ethnic neighborhoods in which won’t put up as loud of a complaint as let’s say a more local neighborhood
If you recall, 42 cases were “found” with 1.7m tests in the HKD530m voluntary testing exercise. 0.17% positive rate in this exercise. Was the targeted testing more efficient? I do think so. Will it be any more effective? I wouldn’t count on it. Just good practice for violating rights to no good end. I will say at least they made some efforts to minimise the inconvenience, but perversely that is likely to limit the effectiveness as well. The first targeted round
of testing in July detected 12 infections among 15,000 taxi and minibus drivers, a 0.08 per cent positive rate.
Only one Covid-19 case was found during the screening of more than 32,000 staff at elderly care centres, while six were identified among the same number within the catering industry.
Another five infections were discovered among 3,800 wet market workers, a positive rate of 0.13 per cent.
(48 hours for the lockdown was the original target, to allow those with a 5-day week to return to work)
