    Have not read the reports but from what I've been told by someone who has read the news reports, the "quad" is stepping up to fill some gaps.

    @MABinPengChau

    President Biden announced the vaccine partnership plan March 12 at the outset of the first leaders’ summit of the Quad, a partnership between the United States, India, Japan and Australia.

    We’re “launching an ambitious new joint partnership that is going to boost vaccine manufacturing” for global benefit and “strengthen vaccinations to benefit the entire Indo-Pacific,” Biden said. Under the plan, Quad nations will finance, manufacture and distribute at least 1 billion doses of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2022.

    “Building on the progress our countries have achieved on health security, we will join forces to expand safe, affordable, and effective vaccine production and equitable access, to speed economic recovery and benefit global health,” the leaders of the four democracies say in a joint statement.

    If covid still doesn't go away in 2022, Japan may have a few locally developed vaccines I hope

    Japan and TW have local capacity to produce vaccines (Japan way more than TW). Eventually, if there is enough need, they will get granted a license to make whatever...not sure how hard it is to do the mRNA ones with the lipid nanoparticles as the delivery vehicle, definitely a bit different from the usual "killed virus" types of vaccines but where there is a will there is a way and all that...

    Handy Unicef-sponsored vaccine dashboard- lists all countries and all vaccine orders and status of vaccine supply, etc. Pretty interesting. Shows that there is way less supply than outstanding orders.

    So why are the Quad saying they will supply enough by end 2022 using Indian produced vaccines?

    Sorry but China is still winning the vaccine diplomacy fight.

    China to Philippines: already donated 600,000 and another donation of 400,000 on its way. That is only one dose for 1% of the population but....

    West to Philippines: we will ship our surplus when we have finished (ignoring Covax)

    It is easy to counter argue but the headlines are there.
