    I can't help but feel this is going to be seen as very lenient up north. They'll be trying judges under the NSL soon

    Somehow I doubt such patriotic inconsistencies will matter to them or their bosses. Authoritarian power demands obedience and loyalty, not logical and independent thought.

    Out of interest, what is earliest date of release on a sentence in HK? Follow the UK system, which is release after serving 1/2 of sentence if under 2 years? If so, I expect most will be out quite soon given time served. Used to be eligible for parole after 1/3 and release after 2/3 but was updated a few years back.

    I'd be surprised if Jimmy Lai walked with just 12 months.

    Which was the more serious offence?

    I'mnot sure in most developed juristictions these cases would of made it to court.
