    No Singapore Travel Bubble....

Singapore and Hong Kong called off an announcement planned for Thursday on an air travel bubble between Asia’s two major financial hubs, according to people familiar with the matter, the second time in five months the highly anticipated arrangement appears to have run into obstacles.

No reason was immediately provided on why the announcement -- which Bloomberg reported Wednesday was expected as soon as Thursday -- was postponed and a new date has not been set, said the people, who asked not to be identified as they’re not authorized to speak publicly. The cancellation was initiated by the Singapore side, one of the people said.

    On the ATP Site:

Given the evolving COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong, the Singapore and Hong Kong Governments have agreed to defer the launch of the Singapore – Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble (ATB) flights. This is to safeguard public health in both cities as well as travellers’ health.

Sigh...yeah it's always Singapore the cautious one, and HK the one wanting to get it arranged ASAP. Last time it was the same.

    Not surprised.

Singapore is hosting the World Economic Forum in August.

Letting the travel bubble start in late May will give it too short a runway to rein things in if an outbreak were to happen in June.

They think very similarly to China. Everything is about face - one is concerned with a 100th anniversary, the other about showing the world it is back and ready to do business.

Looks like called it indirectly on the other thread!

Jockey Club should start bets on this along with number of cases on the mini lockdowns.

Pretty much everyone I know has the LeaveHomeSafe app installed. Most of the folks I know have had their first and/or second shots too. Not that I know that many people... but just saying.

Its only the paranoid and loud lot that seem to take over the discussions at times. Most of us just go on with our lives...
