He may not be the index case, just the first picked up, presumably through routine testing at the airport. The fact there's a high viral load in the buildings could indicate wider spread- he may be a victim of the outbreak rather than the cause.

Getting vaccinated is just the right course of action for everyone no matter where they work. HK is full of dumbfucks at the moment approximately 58% dumbfucks.

A local wave triggered really ought not to lead to any reversion to long quarantine for travellers, especially as this was not imported by a traveller per se.

As for further spread, I guess we are 50/50 on whether this gets rapidly contained by contact tracing or it gets out... it seems pretty clear that if it gets out then only vaccinations or very widespread proper lockdown is going to stop this variant getting out of control. HK will of course opt for the latter which really won't be fun.

Hope he gets better soon and hope this influences those not yet vaxxed or on the fence about vaxxing to get it....Though this morning on Aaron's feed it seems there are more bookings for Biontech than we have doses now...?
