Should we be worried?
Should we be worried?
You'll notice that slowly everything is closing and fewer people are allowed to gather. We're already basically in lockdown, the only difference is we are allowed out of our homes.
There won't be a total Wuhan-style lockdown because there is no point. Most non-essential services apart from shopping malls are already closed.
After they keep extending the deadlines for shutting so many businesses it's going to feel like a lockdown in April/May with so many places closed.
To be honest a bit surprised here, if I had to guess a few days ago, I thought they would announce a lock down. Happy of course that is not the case. Given that type D restaurants (there are many) still allow 4 people to dine together, it doesn't seem like the government really wants to break this wave. Again happy, but surprised!
Then there were a number of members here on Geo who claimed to have sources in the know that a lockdown was imminent. I have to question those peoples sources or motives, seems they were pretty darn wrong so far? Anyone care to comment on their "sources"?
Well, that's reassuring.
It's not possible to do a full lock down in HK - at the very least people will have to be allowed out to buy food and other essentials + those involved in the supply of food and essential services will have to go about their business. Beyond that, further restrictions are possible as they Quixotically tilt at the windmill of "dynamic zero".
While I'm sure there are tens of thousands of people wearing masks at home and taping up the gaps around their doors, I've been pleasantly surprised by how many people are cheerfully getting on with their lives during this raging aggravating crisis. A lockdown now is just gonna look stupid and be utterly pointless. Which probably means they'll do it tomorrow.
More optimistically you could interpret the current approach as utterly spineless autopilot face saving trajectory, forcing events to get us into the “rapid test and manage your symptoms at home” approach without any change of direction being announced.
They'd have to allow one person of the family to go out to buy food. This, they could claim would be tracked with LHS. Then, they could also limit the amount of customers in grocery stores at any given time, further inconveniencing the population and making life as miserable as possible. Rule nothing out with this bunch.
Full Lock down as in NO movement for anyone = NO FECKING CHANCE!!!!!
Wasnt a number floated around in another thread of how much it would cost like 100 Billion RMB if HK did a full shut down and for how long?? Just the logistics of full lock down, panic buying, emergency staff going to work etc etc is unthinkable.
COMPUTER SAID NO LA!!!!
