    Mar 5: 37529 Cases, 150 Deaths & Updates

    Press Conference @ 4:30PM

    Attending

    1. Principal Medical and Health Officer of the Communicable Disease Branch of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, Dr Albert Au
    2. Chief Manager (Integrated Clinical Services) of the Hospital Authority, Dr Larry Lee
    Livestream

    https://webcast.info.gov.hk/revamp/eng/livecast.html

    Stats
    Cases: 37529 Cases (?) - 6 imported
    Deaths: 150 in last 24. 32-105YO, 82 from care homes, 109 not vaxxed, 21 - 2 vax. 137 are > 65YO.
Backlogged: 70 dead added as backlog
    Other Stats:
    • 0.6% tested +ve for Delta (random sampling)
    • +60 care homes, 47 elderly and 13 disabled homes
    • 589 care homes in total, 73% of all homes. 11K residents and 3K workers
    • 5th Wave deaths: Median age - 85 YO.
    • 5th Wave deaths: 86.1% underlying conditions
    • 5th Wave deaths: 91.3% - vax not completed (< 2 doses)
    • 5th Wave deaths: 1.25% not vaxxed, .04% for fully vaxed
    • 5th Wave deaths: > 80YO - not vaxxed rate is > 8%
    • 61 Critical - 109 in serious conditions . Vast majority not vaxxed.
    • 700+ discharged
    • 8000+ HA staff are +ve and 1500 or so have returned

    Highlights and Q&A
    • Appealing to private organisations to give more priority to elderly care home vaccinations. 5 out reach teams and > 150 doctors. New DH teams have been added.

    • ICAC deployed 200 case officers into contact tracing teams to help CHP issue quarantine orders to household contacts.

    • Mortuary Report: Remains have to be sent to the public mortuaries which have 1530 spaces - they're full. Now using private facilities (Tung Wah Groups, Nursing homes - 40 spaces and other organisations). 10+ refrigerated containers by tomorrow and 10+ more being added (adding 600 bodies to containers).

    • Are +ve case numbers low because of backlog or fewer people being tested?

      - Usually a single day number does not mean anything. Observe for +7 days.
      - More people are using RATs instead of PCR tests
      - Almost 40K ... kidding us by saying if RATs are added the case load would be around 50K.

    • When will the RAT test be launched? Are you concerned it will collapse as soon as its launched? How can +ve RATs be reported?

      - DH / IT minions are working with a "particular research center" to launch this platform. There are complicated details / workflows. Cross checking of cases, ID verification, lots of issues to be resolved.
      - Suggest to the public if they're RAT +ve, stay at home and isolated or masked @ home.
      - Several 1000s of +ve reports on the PCR result platform. They're being reconfirmed / contacted.
      - When the new platform is launched, we hope to have an accurate RAT +ve count.

    • Makeshift hospital - few dozen have been admitted there - why so few?

      - Blah Blah... waiting to be admitted and some more random word vomit
      - There are other department involved and we don't know who is doing what and why.. (seems to have given up on getting anything done)

Don't think there will be much more to add here ..

Have you asked people in government rather than us who can do nothing?

Why do we need vaccination policy when we have RAT policy in place with self-reporting portal, soon we will have flatten 5th wave with daily numbers in 3 digit and available quarantine facilities in 5 digit, Victory..

PS:- Portal is not yet ready due to technical issue of loosing face if new numbers add up to current backlog making it drastically high daily numbers..

I think he missed the 1 in front of the 50 there.

When will they remove quarantine for incoming travel? It doesn't make any sense anymore.

Passengers are forced to get a negative PCR test before boarding. The percentage of positive cases arriving in HK is much smaller than in HK currently. By allowing quarantine-free travel, they would also increase the %age of infected people in HK.

Just to confirm when it says an additional 70 deaths as backlog that means 220 deaths were in fact reported today?
