PCR test for a child under 3 departing from Hong Kong

    Hi!

I've got into a really complicated situation. My wife & two kids need to depart from Hong Kong, and the destination country requires having 48-hour PCR tests for all ages. I've already booked a HKIA PCR test for my wife and my 5-year old son; but they said they won't do the test for my 2.5 year old daughter.. As I understand, officially kids under 3 have to do stool test, but we don't have such possibility - since their total flight is almost 30 hours long, so, say, if we do it on Saturday, it won't be fresh enough for their flight on Sunday. Moreover - official laboratories work only on working days, and the Friday is a holiday, so that complicates the situation even more.

What should we do? Is there any solution from the situation? Maybe there are some private laboratories making rapid stool test (PCR or RT-PCR) for kids under 3?

@Grinnie Jax - is the test requirement 48 hours from departure or from arrival?

Pathlabs has this test available for sure. No clue what their time windows are like - check with them.

It seems that 48 hours from the day/time when the test had been performed. So, for instance, they arrive at 10 PM on June 6th - it means the test should be done after 10 PM June 4th.

Thanks, calling PathLab right now - lets see.

Complete list of test labs is here: https://www.coronavirus.gov.hk/pdf/L...CR.pdf?noembed if you cannot get a suitable response from pathlab - I have not used them directly, but seems like HKU uses them for their testing as my most recent blood test done at HKU came with a pathlab report.

PathLab said that they must have a referral letter from a doctor. That's a bit strange, since it's for travel purpose.. moreover, they don't work on Sunday. So keep searching..

Here are a list of community centers, which I think should be available / open on Sundays. Email addresses and phone numbers are provided - will need a little bit of leg work unfortunately.

Curious which country is even further behind the curve than HK… from 1 June no need to PCR inbound toddlers as they acknowledge no one overseas will do it!

I’d contact the embassy or consulate.

Do they require proof of age (like birth certificate or HKID or some such) at the test center for children? If not, I would go with saying your child is already 3...desperate situations call for desperate measures...

Russia. Actually, we aren't Russia citizens, but need to departure & transfer in Moscow. What is the most weird here - they don't require any tests for Russians, but require for foreigners..

P.S. I only managed to book a slot on 4th June at Union Hospital. Called tens of centers - and they either refuse because of age (<3 yr.old = instant reject) or they simply don't work on Sunday or Sunday and Saturday all together. So we won't have the 48 hour fresh test, but at least 58 hour fresh test..

And yes - I did call the embassy of Russia. They told me that they actually don't care - just speak to the airlines. Called Emirates again - they said to ask embassy
    shri and drumbrake like this.
