LCSD Anti-Scalping rules increase prices of scalped bookings

Man said the scalpers are now charging them an extra HK$200 “accompany fee” per session for the person who booked the pitch to stay there in order to meet the authorities’ latest requirements.

“They see this as an opportunity to earn more from us, as it is just too lucrative for them to let go. The scalpers earn up to HK$600 to HK$700 per session easily - for every session lasting for only 90 minutes,” stressed Man.

“All we want is to have rules that would stop scalping, but they are now costing us even more,” he added.

You would think that when there is this much pent up demand for pitch space that the simple response would be to make more pitches, not increase fines..
FFS the population wants to exercise! Any other civilised place would love this problem.

It cannot be helped. There isn't enough land in HK and we need to prioritise usage for public housing development first.

HK is pretty well equipped with outdoor facilities relative to other countries. As always the problem is lack of land and high density living. The solution cannot be to build more but to have a far more efficient use of current facilities and more convenient booking methods.

Within ten minutes walk of my home there is a full size grass football pitch, a full-size artificial turf pitch and a small 6-8 aside rubber pitch (also some smaller concrete pitches). The grass pitch is almost never used (I assume it is restricted to formal leagues), the artificial one is busy only at weekends, the rubber one is a free for all and the concrete pitches are used mainly for drying laundry.

    All could be improved.

Demolish all the dilapidated largely disused industrial buildings etc and put those locations to good use.

You either book online or in person at the counter. How do ppl know where to find the scalpers for bookings..

Don't understand why so difficult. Just do it the Mark Six way and outlaw the bookies? Bookings must be done through LCSD. On-sell/transfer of bookings for profit to be illegal - big $ fine if caught for both sides in event of spotcheck. If you booked it, you bought it - too bad if you can't make the time, no refund. Fees are so low anyway. OK to pass to someone else for free/cost value. At least less fuss vs who booked/must be there nonsense.

That's obviously bullshit. HK uses as much space for warehousing and storage as for public housing and twice as much for roads.

Isn't that how it's now? The person making the booking has to be there, that's why the scalpers are charging $200 extra to stay with you for the 90 minutes.

Yeah, the new rules which don't solve the issue at all. I think they should just outlaw the practice specifically for this and stop with the bs arrangements that just make it less convenient for them to latch on. There is no benefit to the HK public whatsoever to tolerate touting of public resources.

But no, I was wondering how the peeps who can't get bookings counter know where to find these scalpers in the first place. Probably FB group, v efficient. Should hire them into govt and run the system instead.
