These headlines are very kind to suggest it was/is a mystery...

They were trying to give it away for free in HK. FREE. They were doing their rounds going door to door asking if anyone would take it for free and no one wanted to take it - even the potential white knight glow of having saved this iconic HK restaurant from doom wasn't enough to tempt a fellow HK corp to adopt the vessel.

Any shipyard willing to take this would have to be a junkyard specializing in dismantling vessels for scrap value.

They were just testing the waters to see the reaction. Maybe the insurance told them to bugger off and stop lying.

The owner of the Jumbo Floating Restaurant says it will not be receiving any insurance pay out after the restaurant capsized last Sunday, less than a week after being towed away from Aberdeen Harbour and into the South China Sea.

In a statement released on Sunday night, Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises said it only had third-party insurance for the floating restaurant.

The company also stressed that the ship had been inspected and had received the go-ahead from maritime authorities here following an inspection by marine engineers, and before a tugboat, hired through a third-party broker, attempted to take it to a shipyard in Cambodia.

Quite sensible. I can't envisioned any insurance company will actually insure that chunk of an object to get towed a few thousand km away in open sea....

Hehe. They sound very annoyed - dammit how many times must we tell you ppl no money! And we did everything by the book so just buzz off already =P

I'm assuming the Brunswick PR firm that issued their 1st statement about the capsizing is the crisis management PR firm... they are well prepared

Wind and water are earth’s transpo system so I believe tropical storm Chaba is not here for Xi or anything related to 1 July but is here to jiggle the stagnant waters in South China Sea ie to collect the half-rotting corpse of Jumbo before its soul morphes into an evil Chinese ghost that will go on to wreck havoc in the area - very difficult to exorcise if it comes to that.
