Reports suggest that a number of journalists were banned from covering the handover celebration events after a security background check.

Journalists banned are from outlets such as HK01, SCMP, Now TV, Ming Pao, AFP.

EDIT: Journalists who did not pass the background check include those from the HK Govt's own news bureau, and also the Liaison Office controlled Ta Kung Pao.

Do you blame us mortals for being unsure when they themselves are not 100% convinced..

"Police are getting prepared for President Xi’s possible visit to Hong Kong. Police will take appropriate measures to ensure the entire security operation be conducted in a safe and orderly manner," a Police spokesman said today (June 28).

Serious question- where is possible to watch the fanfare and pageantry online? I really want to see Xi checking out Science Park...hoping he goes to see a client...
If I were in HK, I imagine all the local networks would be covering every movement of his eminence, but, here in Taiwan, doubt it will even get a mention on the evening news...not sure Al Jazeera will carry it either, it's hardly an earth-shattering event...

One of reason for skipping the visit could be "inclement weather" - given tropical depression (typhoon) is brewing in South China Sea !

Only if he was planning to come by HZMB, would be too lame a reason for high-speed rail journey from SZ to HK and limo straight into Wan chai CC..

Who is he going to see? A company or someone like ASTRI or NAMI (HK quasi-governmental research institutes)? That is, if he even shows up in view of the bad weather (does his hair actually move in the presence of a strong wind? Enquiring minds want to know!).

Followed by a visit to Jimmy Lai and all the protesters in prison to, you know, convince them of the error of their ways...
