And Mary Ma's editorial .. unusually pissed off.

Clearly, there exists a widened gap between current government Covid policy and public expectations.

Then, outside the airport, it's absolutely unbelievable that no night duty bus driver could be arranged to take affected incoming travelers to isolation facilities, even though such simple logistical support could have been readily provided with no difficulty.

Could it be that the government thought it was not worth investing in maintaining a night fleet as the demand for the service may be small?

Had that been the consideration, this would have been a case of poor judgment placing concerns about resources before the need to quarantine.

Quite surprised the normally very pro government Mary Ma is taking such a stance. But not complaining. The whole thing is a farce.

BTW so far nothing in the SCMP about it.

In fairness the current crop are trying! Cite instructions to hotels to refund unneeded QT days as a prime example

Aww, where's their sense of adventure! DOH told me to spend the night in the airport, I landed at 3PM, left around 9:30 AM the following morning. Experience the comfort of sleeping on airport benches! Enjoy the hospitality of club 7-11 and its selection of fine alcoholic beverages! Marvel at the strength of the AC, at refrigeration levels in all areas! Wonder at the architectural beauty of the airport! Watch the night cleaners and random security guards wander around! You have PLENTY of time to spend in quarantine, ENJOY the wide-open spaces of the airport while you can...

I tend to agree that for most adults, it's not the end of the world to spend a night at the airport however there could be kids, elderly or sick people which could lead to serious consequences. It's simply not acceptable and I'm glad it's being reported. I would love to think that the embarrassment could lead to changes but with all that has happened in the last few years, it seems the government is somewhat immune to it.

Not quite, the tourist information booth is open and the current employee there is a local candy crush champion (he has had over 2 years of doing nothing but man the desk and play)
