    What is this villa for?

    What is the villa for? 508 million dollars for government to do what? 508 million could probably build a few high quality security structures!

    It is bought by the Central (mainland) Government, not by the HK Government.

    The article mentioned that HK has allowed a budget of 8 billion for national security for the coming years. Not sure if the house is paid by this budget though.

    should expand this question to diplomats as well.. i think the diplomatic community has some different sets of tax regime.. e.g. in singapore the diplomats buying cars are exempted from those ridiculously high taxes that everyone else need to pay, but when they sell the car the new buyer either tops up the tax or they have to sell to another diplomat..

    HK Govt spent $500 million on this villa. The HK population is 7 million. They could have given each HKer HK$1 million and still have money left over. I feel like a HK$1 million check would be life-changing for most people. Yet they wasted it all on a villa and STILL LOST.
