Chinese criminal law is extraterritorial, as long as the person committing the crime is of Chinese nationality, even when the act was conducted outside of China, it can still be prosecuted within China.

But this doesn't apply to the Hong Kong legal system, yet.

I think that's a good analogy for the sevens. Last week the Rugby Union were hailed as the heroes demonstrating Hong Kong has opened up, this week they are thrown under the bus.

More escalation ... reeks of insecurity paired with local politicians falling over each other to show how they're more patriotic than the last one.

She said Hong Kong has operating extradition agreements with South Korea, which the city’s police force should request the assistance of South Korean authorities to help apprehend any suspects that violated the Hong Kong national security law, and extradite them from the country to undergo trial back in Hong Kong.

Sounds like a great way to get another extradition treaty cancelled

So, if we "fire" the rugby team, these are (were) the same people going to play at the HK 7's? So the host nation will have no team? Or maybe there are hundreds of talented and trained rugby players waiting in the wings that we don't know about?

Sorry, don't follow rugby (except during international incidents).

This is The Barbara Streisand effect in full flow.

Some thing that would have been forgotten is being raised as a big issue and rather than put HK in a positive light, it is highlighting what a mess the city is.

    Couldn't have worked out better.
