WotzUp on the mountainside above the Fuel station near the Chinese cemetary?

Me? I have been puzzled by strange erectile towers that are high on the mountain slope back and beyond YY Mansions which is at the "Dead End" of Pok Fu Lam Road that skirts the eastern side of PFL playground.

These towers often go flaccid for a while before being stirred upright again!

Since I am far too ancient to attempt to mountain climb up and find out what really is going on there, especially when there is no defined track/roadway to access that location..... So does any reader here know what is going on?

At night, the tallest one sports 4 bright lamps which (more often than not) face in my direction (down towards the junction of PFL road to Mt Davis Road), but sometimes are slewed away from that location.

I am puzzled that these lights are not powered up overnight, 'cos each late night, the lights are doused and I can't easily see the required red lamp on the top!

Surely, the towers are required to display aeronautical lamps, especially when there's helicopter flights around here at times?

This early morning they were totally obscured by the mist, but by 09:00 they were semi-erectile again.

My daughter posits that it is something associated with Queen Mary Hospital, but I pooh-poohed that suggestion as QMH is too far away - over the ridge and far away from recent construction works at the hospital !

So, DO any engineers here who know WHAT is going on?

This was my guess but i dont know the area so wasnt aware of any Construction

As for as I can see, the devices are a very long way fro the nearest habitations, and the tops of these towers are certainly impossible to turn into cranes as they are NOT squared off, but slope at ~45 degrees at the top.

Not only that but I feel that having to winch then up and down several times a day rather precluded their usage as anything like a crane.

In all honesty, I'm totally bewildered by the "flaccid to rampant upright" movements several times a day.... especially as the hoisting mechanism seems to be far too close to the "towers" - to provide a proper "pull" on the cable.

And tonight they are not even upright, more like ~ 70 degrees to the horizontal with their spotlights blazing !

I was hoping that someone here would know what these towers could be there fore.

But - from my "observation point" it certainly ain't a telescoping crane.

The first one started out as no more than 3(?) sections and [like Topsy] it grew to a multi-many section erectile tower. and the power source to erect it is now so close that it seems too close to raise it up.

The second, adjacent, tower is similarly ill-equipped to be fully erectile, but it has never been very tall.

I can't believe that it can ever be a crane, it's too slim and the top is NOT squared off for any gantry to be fitted or even to turn.

I had a very good view - until the construction blocked my view - of a tower crane next door to my residence, so I know what a tower crane looks like close up, and the specialised extending crane mounted on a strong truck used to get it constructed "on site".

Thus, I am still baffled, bewildered, and bemused by these constructions as I was months ago when they first put in an appearance!!
