    Tseung Kwan O Tomorrow?

Not sure if I have heard about this plan before... is this new?

More than 135,000 people will live in 50,000 flats to be built on what is presently identified as Area 137 - a 101-hectare spread next to the landfill in Tseung Kwan O - despite opposition.

The number will include 93,000 people in 34,000 public housing flats, the Development Bureau revealed. That comes with housing in the area being split between public and private housing at a ratio of 70:30.

Construction will begin in 2025, though 80 hectares have already been made ready for development while around 20 hectares are coming from reclamation.

The bureau expects to complete the reclamation in 2028, with the first 34,000 residents moving into 12,600 apartments in 2030.

"The area, as large as four Taikoo Shings, will be constructed and planned around transport infrastructure, ancillary facilities and a green and livable environment," a bureau spokesman said.

They have been dredging and flattening that area for a while, makes sense why now. I'd love to see what their plans are for "Innopark".

You can despite their long term projections that population in HK will go up, but if they are right that the houses are needed, TKO seems as good a place to put them as any.

Big supporter of the mainland renewable links mentioned as well, HKs near 100% reliance on fossil fuels for electricity is an outrage these days.

Big plan revealed.. was this meant as a CNY yay gd news frm govt w/o saying so.. :p

Reclamation.. again. Maybe the HK govt's plan on public housing is to provide it only on reclaimed land cuz net costs per hec lower - that's why so slow vs using existing land to build public housing cuz the best use of that (HK's only nontax revenue source) is to sell it commercially for huge profits. Wasn't Lautau Tmr project costs HK$500bn/1700 hectares. And CK Assets bought Kai Tak for HK$1bn for 10+ hec..

This is not new but in preparation for many years. This plot is literally opposite my building. Here's a photo I've taken just today:

TKO and TC are going to be so packed, the MTR to TC is already a nightmare during the week, once that reclamation is done it is going to be ridiculous. And dont get me started with their couple blue taxi licenses...

The amount of blue taxi allowed to drive on Lantau South. During the weekend they're impossible to get because there are so few of them.
