Hum. Vid is ok but why
This is abt boosting tourism so it shd be abt the chance to win tix soon plus goodies for tourists..

Had a couple of frens ask recently if shops still closing early or back to before..ppl here just to shop eat won't come if shops are closing at 9-ish cuz HK used to be pretty bustling still at 11-ish. Dunno if this will improve - staffing issues aside, i think in general ppl got used to working less during covid and not willing to amp up again for same amt..

Can't help myself ;p anyone rems Droopy.. he reminds me of Droopy..

Well.. I can confirm an activity that ceased caused directly by HK's covid policy is starting up. I know a bunch of ppl from Sg and Malaysia who used to fly to HK for potential business discussions several times a year/couple days each trip. This stopped completely when the quarantine req came in so they were going to Thailand, Indo and other SE asian countries during this time. They just msged to say they are popping by - I have not seen them for 3 years!

It sounds more glam than it is. It's not the kind of high flying banking biz with big players that HK is known for, they are flying here on own acct, own biz just meeting with ppl, old sch wheeler dealer. But whenever they come, they stay at the hotels, they will entertain and eat with clients, a lot of these also frm China side at your usual glam restaurants. Because they are the opposite of the glam side of business, I guess things are fully up and running?

Meanwhile retail everything is still closing early.. so interested tourists atm still zero :x

Does HKIA have a shortage of ground staff now? I guess we will see lost bags piling up at the airport soon like we did in London, Sydney and everywhere else around the world last year. 500k free tickets is not going to help the situation.

    Few points.

I don't think tourists from Europe will come for the simple reason they're going to more interesting places with cities as well beaches such as Thailand or Dubai after a long break. Or Spain or Italy or Greece and so on. The Chinese, I would presume, would go to Thailand, Korea, Japan, and Europe.

The task of globally marketing the idea that 'fun' Hong Kong is back is way beyond the capabilities of the idiots in government. As are the logistics. And it's not true. See below.

It's not only Covid mandates which have diminished HK's reputation as a tourist destination. It's both 2014 and 2019.

    Lastly - masks. Still!

The city in that video had some pride in itself and a fair bit of confidence.

The city we live in now also does... They just don't bother marketing it to foreigners anymore
