I wonder what the incentive is for rebuilding public housing? It must be fantastic news for the people living there but just curious the gov wasn't tempted to spend money that boosts economy

At some point in the past the South Island West line appeared on this page, but it's gone, so I think we can be sure it's fairly dead. Although interestingly, they forgot to remove it from the page description which shows here...

It boosts the economy.. discreet wealth transfer to developers. Besides Wah Fu was the first bit of public housing rolled out and is / was clearly showing its age..

If people are under the impression that any large scale development will continue on HK Island has definitely been living under a rock.
Money will be spent on northern border town and then on artificial islands...

Well at least hopefully this means HK island won't get more crowded and remains less claustrophobic than the northern new territories will become

Are you even in HK or have been to HK recently? Just curious.. you do know that the island is not one glorious country park, right?

If they put a bakehouse and Vission in the 'Northern Metropolis' then maybe. Otherwise I doubt anything would change.

    Back in the news...

The proposed 7.5-kilometer line will connect Wong Chuk Hang Station on the South Island Line and HKU Station on the Island Line, passing through areas around Aberdeen, Wah Fu, Cyberport and Pok Fu Lam.

The line is expected to serve nearly 130,000 residents and 50,000 workers and will shorten the travel time from Wong Chuk Hang to the university by 20 minutes.

Due to the hilly terrain, there is a preliminary proposal to adopt a tunnel form for a section from Queen Mary Hospital to HKU.

The bureau aims to start planning and designing for the smart and green system next year.

"We will strive to commence advance construction works in 2027 to tally with the timetable for new population intake of the Wah Fu Estate redevelopment," it said.
