HAD boss Alice Mak said ................

"Our colleagues at the Office of the Licensing Authority will also conduct spot checks. If any violations are found during an inspection, we will ask the operators to remedy the situation. If they do not comply, we will cancel the license"
with 30+ guest houses in that building, they will have been checking and checking for many years, yet they noticed nothing?

oh and changing the regulations! typically doesn't impact all the existing businesses already opened under the earlier regulations, so new rules will only impact a new business

The issue with press releases / media reports like that is that it keeps shifting the “culprit” in the minds of the simpletons…

I already heard from an ‘auntie’ (upper middle aged neighbour) that it’s the guesthouses’ fault who mostly serve S/SE Asians and their “hygiene” and being “messy”.

So definitely nothing to do with greedy landlords or fire safety codes not being adhered to. It’s those messy SE Asians who tidy up hotel rooms for a living but apparently can’t tidy up their own home.

USE OF SARCASM SHOULD BE EVIDENT.

Should be 'authorities will carry out work'. No 'if'.

    Same old BS. Never changes.

Oh please. Anyone who has lived here for more than a month knows why. Hong Kong belongs to real estate developers. Almost all our taxes are from real estate, we do nothing but try to increase real estate prices and values and we do anything we can not to cost real estate developers any money. The biggest Hong Kong companies are not banks, but real estate developers. The richest Hong Kongers aren't tech moguls or design moguls or bankers but real estate developers. That is Hong Kong.
