    2022 is when China went full out on quarantine in order to stem the Omicron variant, starting with the shutdown of Shanghai in April, and ending with the abandonment of Zero Covid in December 2022.

    However, I'm uncertain of when they actually stopped accepting deportations. I thought it was way before 2022. According to this link, the problem with China had already started by June 2020:

    U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement keeps a list of countries it seems “recalcitrant” in cooperating on deportations. As of June 2020, there were a dozen countries on it, according to the Congressional Research Service: Cuba, Russia, Iraq, Iran, Burundi, Eritrea, Pakistan, India, Cambodia, Laos, Bhutan and China.
