In my opinion, you need therapy if you think this is worth giving a damn about. Of all the stupid things to complain about...
What if the MTR banned staring at your phone while walking in the stations, which I venture is the cause of more accidents? I can only imagine the public uproar. This seems like a silly campaign when as Sith pointed out, feels like a few more things could be improved- the first of which would be the use of more skid-proof stairs material for the many, many rainy days. There are much better surfaces so we don't all slide down the stairs (lots of places don't have the luxury of an escalator).

I'll walk the escalator if it's free but am I going to get my panties in a bunch if I have to wait a few seconds extra because people are standing there? As I said, consider therapy if you find waiting a few seconds aggravating or take the stairs. There is an alternative so if you must live your life like a bat out of hell then fly up the stairs.
We are not complaining if there is high volume and people are standing on both sides, or if someone is standing next to Grandpa or a little kid, holding his hand, or any of the many, many times you cannot walk.

Just let us walk on those low-volume occasions or when we manage to be the first one off the train (my morning routine, I have the exact door that lets out in front of my exact escalator worked out and am always first on). Don't outlaw it is all we ask.

Sure there could be other improvements...whether they are better or not is a matter of perspective since there is no data. In any case, they saw a problem, they are trying to fix THAT problem and the inconvenience is inconsequential except it seems for certain people who think every second of their lives is soooo much more important that everything else.

Again, we DON'T THINK WE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVERYONE ELSE. Does everyone looking at their cellphone think that? No, they just do it because they like to do it. I do it because I like to do it, because I don't like going to a gym and because it is another way to stay fit. The stairs are lethal for me for reasons I outlined elsewhere and also just not as fun. I like doing it. If you don't like it, fine, I don't care. But I will not have motives put on me that are not anything or said or anything I believe.

And what exactly stops you from going up the stairs on the left if it's free? They are not talking about fining people walking up the stairs, they are encouraging people to stand to prevent injuries. If it's so damn important to you, you can be one of those crazies that dart out of the MTR and run up in front of everyone. No one is stopping you from being a nutter. I go up the escalators on the left when they are free and will continue to do so and if not then I will patiently wait the extra few seconds and get on my merry way never even thinking about it the way a normal human being should be just like before.

Just stand on the right if you want to be an NPC. The solution has been there all along.

As I said above and referenced in my last comment, the rise in the stairs is tiny, the rise on an escalator step is more natural for me.

And, now that we have moved into the bickering phase of this thread, which needs to now be closed if we're there, I am finished, I don't do this in general, no idea why I have engaged this far except that this campaign is sillier than the usual silly campaign.

Absurd rules, such as this and not being allowed to cross a totally empty street should be resisted.

7000 people in HK die per year from smoking but we don't ban that.
