Yeah, been getting taxis on Uber forever.

I just updated the Uber app- apparently we can request UberX rides for greatly discounted prices, ie. $40 for usual $130 rides? Seems too good to be true

I don't quite get it- so Uber is fully legalized, OR just the app is legalized to hail 'Uber Taxis' under the HK Taxi umbrella?

Was thinking the same, strange?

When you request a taxi you get a private hire email... I assume that element is fully legal. They also seem to process the payments in HK so you don't get the 1% surcharge when you use a taxi.

I believe the other private car hire is only strictly legal for a small quota of vehicles (i presume private limo and airport/hzmb transport type companies?) and in reality none of the ubers are part of that quota.

You probably have some promo codes in your account. Check the account tab and see what you have.

HKTaxi sent a direct Whatsapp message stating that it will suspend from Feb. 10th- likely more accurate than media reports.
