Fears of HK invasion not unfounded

After all the political issues and under the mask of Covid the invasion has now almost been completed. Silently they crept in. First one, then another and another and so on.

I’ve always sat on the fence about whether it is time to move on but now my thoughts are turning to greener pastures, safe from the iron grip. Even 7-11 and Circle K have been powerless to stop them.

    Fucking claw machines, they’re everywhere!!!!!

For a country that doesn’t endorse gambling beyond HKJC they’ve done nothing whatsoever.

On a serious note I love a gamble and the very occasional trip to Macao but I foresee (and have actually seen) problems with kids and adults spending $$$ usually to win something that would cost the price of one token in nearby shops.

Their growth is a damning indictment on the state of the retail sector. We even now have one in Sai Kung.

Although I agree that to the untrained the claw machines are a form of gambling, what I witnessed a guy last weekend in Sai Wan Ho changed my mind

The 20+ year old guy was very good at the claw machines. At first, I was surprised that he kept feeding the coin machines.

On closer inspection, he seems to have a "method" that moves the Labubu mystery box / blind boxes to the edge. And with a few more tries, manage to drop the box into the exit chute.

I saw him get one box in 10+ tries, and the other in just 3. He was raiding all the machines around the vicinity and seems to have a bag of 10+ boxes before he left, which I think the current price of Labubu dolls are worth the effort.

So the claw machines are a reflection of the gaming industry and/or life? Those who have the knowledge and skills could have an edge / win, but those who blindly play the game will lose and subsidize the winners.

Honestly whenever I walk by these claw shops they're empty.

Isn't this just typical China moneylaundering?

It's just a way to hide commercial property vacancies. It just so happens that claw games are not very capital intensive.

    1. Create short term tenancy agreement
    2. Issue 90% discount side letter
    3. Property remains artificially expensive and vacancies appear low

Next time you see him he'll have a walking frame.

The rule of gambling is that the house always wins.
