    Responding to very old posts

    KIA,

Any chance you could put a warning up when people try to reply to a thread that has had no other replies for a period of, say, 3 or 6 months? Along the lines of:

"The thread to which you are replying has had no new posts since <last post date>. Are you sure your reply is still appropriate?"

    Or something like that?

    i like old threads

some of them become quite relevant again and again and often (other than the ones about accomodation prices) are not dated just by being a few months/years out of date!

Unless it's a post containing a wiki or something that does not age then I doubt that old threads are of any use to anyone except for reference or trogs.
Why not set them to auto-close.

thats funny...because all other forums i frequent usually say to not post new threads if there is an older thread existing. this avoids countless duplicates.

My suggestion wasn't to stop people reopening old threads, just to stop them doing it accidentally.

I'm surprised to see people response (i.e. give an answer to the question posed) to threads which are years old as if they are current. A little 'reminder' sounds appropriate and (some) tardy responders may appreciate it.

Agreed. A warning would stop the mistaken response but still allow a deliberate one. If anyone still responds inappropriately to an old thread then no holds barred on the flak we can give them

Let me look at how we can do this.

KIA actually just responded to an old (almost a year~!) post of mine -- I was both amused and satisfied. It's always nice to have a reply, regardless of when it comes.

If we had that warning, I might not have.
