    Can't access when using VPN

Why is Geoexpat blocked when using a VPN? I use a VPN set to HK location when I'm connected to public wifi. Just wondering...

    Spam and fraud.

Far too many people from dodgy countries using VPNs to contact advertisers / post fake ads to bypass some automagic rules which apply to non-HK users.

One of those seriously non-negotiable things at the GeoCasa.

Probably because the VPN server you are using is on whatever spam list Geo uses. Makes it virtually impossible to browse Geo while in China.

I can't access geo when in Vietnam, Does it qualify for the "dodgy" list!

    Yep...

We do unblock or whitelist locations (not well known VPN exit points) when a known user sends us a support ticket.

Same here, very annoying. Whole network ranges are blocked, as I have a VPN with private IP address.
My HK VPN is not blocked btw.

I tried sending a support ticket (a long time ago) and that wasn't accepted.

Would depend if the email came from someone who had a valid posting / classifieds history.

We can always whitelist a specific IP in a range if required. But again, depends if that IP has been spotted on open proxy / spam reports from other sites.

I can access Geoexpat from China just fine. When using a VPN it is hit or miss. But lately my China SIM card in my phone while in HK has been blocked quite a few times.

Can Geo just block new sign ups from these VPNs instead of blocking the site entirely. Or allow for users to log in via those blocked locations and block all others (e.g. non users)?

I imagine the problem you run into is people posting fake ads. Some websites have imposed waiting periods after signing up which I think has limited spam content. There could also be a vetting process for new users. Not sure how many new users come daily whether this is feasible or not.
