I think it's likely that shady and/or patriotic groups are becoming more sophisticated at launching DDoS attacks and are using networks, some of which are VPNs and some of which are not. I mean... look at the weird conversations people are carrying out here: Premier League without mentioning who this Premier fellow is?

Its not working properly from a standard ISP-provided IP here in Singapore either. Lots of truck/plane identification required. At least we can comfort ourselves with the knowledge that we're helping advance the state of the art in image recognition ML.
