Thread closed, interesting topic but sensitive?

Something happened over the weekend which I find an interesting topic for which a thread got started on but was then closed after one page.
Not going to mention the thread name but was it closed as it could land some people in trouble or was it to prevent a free for all for conspiracy theories and shit stirring?
