    Question about Credit cards

    Hi all,

I got a quick question to ask about credit cards. I got a friend who wanted to know whether you can apply for a new creditcard even with bad credit (Ex. Unpaid creditcard etc)? If not, what are her options to get a new one? She's got some unsettled creditcard debts from years back.

advice your friend to settle the unpaid cc debt first otherwise your friend would most likely be rejected if she applies for a new one.

I really don't see the point getting a new credit card with outstanding debt. Risky move

Are you applying for the credit in the same country that you defaulted in? If not, should be no problem, if so, well, you can apply but you'll surely be rejected...

This is something she should have thought about when she tried to walk away from her debts because even if she pays her current debts, it could take some time before she is deemed credit-worthy again.

Perhaps she can look at the BOC's prepaid credit card. With this, she pays up front an amount from $100 to $5,000 (whatever she wants and can afford to pay in cash) and she can use the card at Visa merchants.
