    Hong Kong Angel Investment Network

Anyone involved in or familiar with this network that purports to bring together entrepreneurs and seed/angel investors?

There are a bunch of them. I suspect even more will come up with today's Money Magazine.

Not sure about the one you've pointed out. Cyberport runs a venture cap forum which has a few legit players who sponsor and or partcipate.

Yes, I was watching Money Magazine this evening and afterwards did some surfing to find some of the people mentioned (while Mrs Doe was otherwise distracted).

I checked out the Cyberport VC's, but all I can find is info on their 2009 Forum, which seems to be the last event staged. I could keep checking to see whether a remnant is still active.

Actually, hi-tech is probably a bit out of my league. My interest extends from some experience with small-cap stocks in more mundane industries. I like them because I get to connect with management and sometimes other shareholders. I'm assuming that angel/VC investing would provide even greater potential for interaction.

That said, I'm not so sure angel investing would suit me because it seems pretty risky given entry is at such an early stage of a business' development and exit opportunities may end up vanishing before one's eyes.

Maybe my question should be whether someone has experience as an angel or VC investor in Hong Kong and whether they might care to share some of their advice/experience.

If nothing else, it would be an interesting read.

I am going to have to agree with John Doe Jr. I have been interested in the possibility of a angel investor and would love to hear experiences that others have had, both on the giving and receiving side. I have met a lot of individuals seeking angel investors(myself included) but have yet to hear of anyone actually making a true connection for success or failure. So others please share your stories or recommend networks that have generated action!

So from my understanding you're interested in small cap PIPE deals and you're looking for angels/VCs to fund your investments? What type of investment sizes are we talking about?

What is your track record with past deals and what is your background? I think what you might want to do is set up a micro fund as opposed to looking for VCs/Angels. Get together a few high net-worth investors and convince them that you're fit to manage some of their money. What types of returns are you projecting from some of these investments or what returns did you get in the past?

Angels and VCs are looking for specific high return-high risk investments (like ~100x return) and hence the reason why they gravitate towards tech.

For other more traditional investors, your challenge is convincing them their money has better chances of generating better returns than the property market.

I actually think there's tons of money in Hong Kong, a good deal though is much harder to find.

That is a interesting idea for a approach, but why do you think it would be superior to a VC? Would it be simply because they would expect a more reasonable rate of return?
