begging is a profession in HK and it's taken very seriously.
Does anyone know the dwarf who sits on the street right where bus no. 23 stops at the big buddha ?
He works there at least 3 days a week.
He commutes to his working place from MongKok ( he told me that's where he lives and I have spotted him several times on the MTR)
When on duty he puts on a great show pretending not to have arms by hiding them.
And if that does not bring in enough he vibrates a little bit making weird noises as if he suffered from epilepsy.

When I worked in Beijing there were reports of gangs roaming the streets with beggar hoards of 2-3 dozen. Every afternoon they would pick them up in the mini bus and take them to their shelter and feed them. Ever morning drop them off to the corner for their work. Many made up to 600 RMB a day. Good business taking advantage of the homeless.

    Beggars belief

There are three beggars begging on Wall Street. The first beggar wrote 'Beggar' on his broken cup. He received $10.00 after one day.
The next day, the second beggar wrote 'Beggar.com' on his cup. After one day, he received hundreds of thousands of dollars and an offer to float an IPO on NASDAQ.
The following day, the third beggar wrote 'e-Beg' on his cup. Microsoft, IBM, and HP sent corporate vice-presidents to talk to him about strategic alliances and offered him free hardware consultancy. In addition, it was reported on CNBC that e-Beg uses 95% Oracle technology and that I2 announced the launch of BegTradeMatrix; a b2b industry portal offering supply chain integration in the beggar community.
