Thanks to all who replied with advice and opinions
We'll see what happens on the day (fate)
I wasnt going to respond, but just to Loz 2's point about self respect and parents - as it burned me a bit.

You see I had had to really teach myself about money and try to understand credit back then, as being without family from 4yrs old and brought up on the streets of Manila (yes I was that little girl in rags at your car window with one hand out for a tip and one carrying her younger sister) I took whatever I could whenever I could.
That mentality towards taking stuck for a long time, not that I intentionally took the card or load to defraud or steal from anyone, again not that its an excuse either.

    Thanks again

It is human nature to judge without knowing (even more so on a forum like this one).

Good luck to you but no matter the past as you said, it helps understand, but it isn't an excuse.

I don't really think this makes a difference, you stole $100,000 from HSBC.

    It does. It helps understand.

It does not excuse, but it helps understand.

I also think this is pertinent

Yes -on the credit report - I already contacted TransUnion - but have to post the application as I am in KL not HK, so cannot do report on line.
Yes - I am in a position to pay - or at least some of it and some regularly, obviously its not my preference to have debt etc. I did contact HSBC HK direct to enquire how to go about it - got passed to "delinquent debtor department" they will contact me shortly (or so the man said)
As for the comment on debtors prisons - great idea, little doriet all over again
Wouldn't they have turned this debt to a collection agency? Not sure how it is done here but I have heard of folks who ignored their banker's pleas to come in and make good and then they found themselves in the grasp of the collection agencies who were brutal to deal with as they 'd call these guys at work and eventually get a garnishee order on their wages.

Now wouldn't the idea of a credit report simply be to locate the debtor - if they tried but couldn't find him?

The morality and lecturing could be better used on far bigger guys who deliberately let their companies go bankrupt screwing a lot of folks but coming out smelling like a rose.
