    An MPF question/confusion.

    Hi,

I am an overseas employee in a local HK firm, and I am currently holding the IANG visa. I have completed 4 months of employment today.

In my contract its written, that employee contribution for MPF will start after 60 days, and consequently in my third month, my pay was docked the necessary 5%. However as I receive my 4th months pay..the deduction last month is refunded and my boss is telling me that my contribution will start after 13 months of employment.

I did some digging and found this:

If you are a member of an overseas retirement scheme, or if your employment visa allows you to remain in Hong Kong for 13 months or less, then you are exempt from joining an MPF scheme.

However my IANG visa is valid for 2 years, up to October 2015. So its more than 13 months. So whats really happening here?

You can still join on a voluntary basis but as far as I remember for new residents in Hong Kong there is a 13-month holiday as to joining the MPF. This might be what your boss is referring to, not your IANG visa.
