No, but you will get a minuscule amount of interest. And I mean minuscule. I buy them for the convenience.

I think it's best not to get into the tax loan cycle if one can avoid it, so do monthly savings either with your bank or tax certificates - whichever works best for you.

Also consider setting up an e-Tax account. It makes completing your tax return a doddle, just a few minutes as some parts are pre-filled. You get an extra month to complete your return too. Plus you can 'save' the form for finishing later, and when you submit it electronically you get an (pretty accurate) estimate as to what your bill will be.

    Tax certificates information:

    Apply for e-Tax account:

Don't most people get 13 months pay (double in December)? So the 13th month basically covers the January tax bill and I fail to see how tax certificates or tax loans are necessary for most people.

Not everyone gets a 13th month payment. I don't. My old man doesn't.

Has there been a change in the tax process this year? For the past few years I've got my annual bill and paid that. This year I have my annual bill PLUS a provisional one. All in all a lot of money to 'find'

Have paid provisional tax for 30+ years. Haven't noticed any change in that time.
