    Hong Kong's 1st 'Unicorn' Startup - $1 Billion Valuation

Again, I'm a bit confused about what gives this company such a high valuation.

Tink Labs, which puts smartphones in hotel rooms, is aiming to be available in 1 million rooms by 2018, according to documents seen by Bloomberg. The company’s phones can be used by hotel operators to promote their services, either in the room or when taken out by lodgers as a free-to-use city guide and mobile device.

And probably every version of Bible, Koran and Gita. Mapped, bookmarked and personalized for every guest.

if Hong Kong Government ITC funding hub thingy supports it, will fail soon enough. I agree, it is stupid and improbable valuation

Never understand why airlines don't sell SIM cards through there trolley pushers. Far more useful than Burt's Bees or a some other lap sap

This is really good. Use the phone to get around then track all of your clients data. Then feed it back to that client based on their preferences during their next stay.

They leave a hotel review, get instantly notified to better serve them.

There's one of these phones in a hotel I sometimes stay at in Macau. I've never used it. Main reason is that I don't want to enter any of my personal details such as email or other accounts and passwords into the phone - I don't care what they say about the phone being wiped at the end of each day. Instead I'd prefer to use my own phone, and use wifi in restaurants or bars that I visit. Possibly it would be useful for local phone calls, but I rarely have a need for that.

I agree somewhat. Facebook and some email providers have a neat feature to get temporary passwords though.

Other than that, it's good for news, looking up travel/sightseeing info, using google maps, and streaming HD porn..., oh wait, scrap the last one.
