The link below is to the HK Law Society's list of company/ commercial lawyers. There are a few big firms listed there, but the majority are smaller and more reasonably priced shops.

Thank you, but I was hoping to get a referral from someone who has used or has heard good things about a smaller sized firm rather than just contacting some randomly. I have a few leads now which I am following up.

Not sure of your budget but i know of a firm called "Tanner De Witt".
I know them personally and i know they do the type of work your looking for.
I also know a lot of start up compnaies have gone through them.
Maybe worth investigating even if just for a comparision.
Hi, if you a lawyers to start up co., usually their fee will be higher, when you get a quote from a legal firm regarding set up cost of a limited co. you can compare their charges against my friend's charges :-
1. set up cost of a limited company in Hong Kong (inc. co. kit) HK$ 3200 ( you can use your own company name or shelf co. name)
2. Business Registration per year HK$450.00
3. Prepare, filing and handling fee of all documents to tax department and Company Registry HK$1000.00
4. Prepare doc. for open bank account HK$500
5. First year co. secretary fee - free of charge /
Staring from next year HK$1500 per year
Total cost of set up a limited co. in Hong Kong HK$ 5150 (equivlent to USD 660)
Annual fee in future :
1. Annual Business Registration fee HK$2600 per year
2. Co. Sec fee HK$1500
3. Audit fee for A/C - depend vol. of transaction
If you have some legal commercial issues, of course, better to appoint a lawyer. But, if you want to save cost, set up company, you can appoint other people to arrange, to save cost. It will not have different if you appoint a lawyer or a accounting firm to set up a company in Hong Kong unless your company nature is very special which we cannot use the standard M&A.
Thanks for those further posts! Yes I think we might just use a secretarial service for the initial incorporation and then use lawyers for the subsequent work.
Travina, can you check your PMs? I've compared your quote from your friend's cpmpany and it seems to be cheaper than other ones I've found so far - am interested in the company's contact details. Thanks!
