    Notarization of someone else's ID

    Hello
I was going to make notarized copies of my passport, as well as my wife and children's during my coming trip to HK. I'm travelling alone. I approached Yip, Tse and Tang solicitors who get recommended a lot on this forum, and i was told that the holder of any id to be notarized should be present in person. That doesn't sound quite right to me. Does anyone know if that's common practice in HK?
