    Tycoons

South China Morning Post: Are tycoons’ tangled ties to blame for anger behind Hong Kong’s prosperous facade?.

    Disgusted reading this article.

These are the fuckers that the protesters should be after.

Beijing should turn on them. China doesn't need them like they did in 1997. No more preferential treatment or involvement in political process.

Has anyone spray painted Bank of China building?

    Why is that?

Most Hong Kongers look up to their tycoons. At least they were proud of Li Ka Shin when asked.

Well Chairman Mao would have either executed the tycoons or made them peasants.

I guess the modern day more humanitarian version might be to put them to work in a FoxConn factory assembling the chassis of the next generation MacBook if Apple will maintain some production in the Mainland.

Its a society problem. I heard it before and didn't really believe it, but in Hong Kong, their religion really is money. I know you get this problem in so many cultures and countries, where money is the measure of success. So Hong Kongers believe this is success in life.

Thats why there is so much interest in "Richest person in the world", "Best Looking/Sexiest in the world", "Most powerful in the world". This shows what society values most - money, power, looks.

Wheres the "Nicest person in the world", "Most generous person in the world", "Most polite person in the world", "Least annoying person in the world" lists?

Unfortunately Beijing still needs them, the functional constituencies are 50% of the Legco seats and 100% of the CE votes.

I would go a step further and say it is Cantonese culture. Southern China has historically been further away from the centers of power and has much smaller of a mandarin class . Business people were always the power brokers.
