Does anybody know how to contact these people apart from phone (which costs a fortune from Hong Kong)?

I sent them more than 1000 pounds to top up my contributions back in April and it still has not shown in my account, nor have i received any sort of acknowledgement

I have posted them a letter but received no reply

I would suck it up and call them unfortunately. They were very helpful on the phone.

You can use a service like Mytello which is just HK$0.08 per minute calling a UK landline or Skype. I think there's other threads on cheapest way to call UK or internationally elsewhere on Geoexpat.

They seem to be backed up - my annual Class 2 NI contribution (made at the beginning of May) hasn't shown up on my record yet either. In previous years it took about 3 months.

But the only way useful to contact them is by phone. It needn't cost a lot of money - providers like Skype will do it for maybe HK$0.2/minute.

I use Skype to call the UK. It is excellent and very cheap. I believe you can even have an actual phone number through it but my extremely small balance (<$20) has lasted years for the few calls I have needed to make.

I always found calling the NI Insurance office was very efficient but that was before they announced the back pay option. I would suck it up and pursue it though- well worth the effort.

When I call up the NI office I do find them helpful. However, the solutions they offer are not immediate (they will say it will be fixed by a date a few months in the future) and I don't get a written record. They do have a record of my conversations - they can see that I have called previously - but I'd be more comfortable with a letter stating what we had talked about.
