    If the HKD is ever in danger they can just whack up the interest rate. The economy would have to be in serious trouble such that the interest rate can't be lowered in order for the peg to break e.g a housing market collapse. More than likely the US will have to lower its interest rate first to stop it's banks from all collapsing due to them not understanding the dangers of bonds.
