Hong Kong's Lee testifies in Canada
"Obviously, it didn't work. I suppose the ambassador actually thought it would," said Lee.
No "respectable committee of Parliament," Lee said, would ever bow to the will of the Chinese government to silence him.In the last two years especially, said Lee, China has been flouting that commitment in Hong Kong.
"The communist interference is so blatant, they don't even deny it," Lee said.Lee will eventually return to Hong Kong, but with mixed emotions.
He's happy that the student-led protests with their peaceful civil disobedience brought attention to the issue, but he's sad it was necessary in the first place.Lee wasn't detained long after his arrest with several others this past December.
He was fingerprinted and released.
"They haven't actually charged us," he said.
"They will."

Reputations of top HK universities tumble in global survey
A spokesman from Times Higher Education said inappropriate suppression by Hong Kong police of participants of the Umbrella movement late last year highlighted challenges in the course of the city’s integration with China.
That has made academics worry about whether academic freedom in the universities can still be maintained.
The rankings may be interpreted in Hong Kong with uneasiness, the spokesman said, and were not a good omen for the city, as an excellent reputation for its universities is a prerequisite for a place to attract global talent.
He said it would be worrisome if Hong Kong loses its unique status as a longtime bridge between the East and the West. The newspaper quoted Occupy Central co-founder Chan Kin-man as saying it is the Hong Kong government that has damaged the reputations of local universities, not the pro-democracy movement.
Chan said the Umbrella movement was highly praised internationally.
