The nominated top student of the Faculty of Dentistry has released a statement on his/her withdrawal from the meeting with Arthur Li through the Undergraduate Student Representatives of the Faculty and it is as follows:
?Statement of Withdrawal from the Meeting with the Council Chairman?
I was invited to be the student representative for the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong, to meet with the Council Chairman, Professor Li, on March 24, 2016 (the Meeting). It has been weeks since I have received this invitation via phone call from the Faculty Office on February 24, 2016. After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw from the meeting for reasons stated below:
Firstly, I received no information regarding the purpose, agenda, or nature of the Meeting. While I have been actively asking the Faculty of Dentistry for further information and clarification, all efforts have been in vain.
Because the nature of the Meeting is unknown, I do not know my position or what I represent if I were to attend the Meeting. Furthermore, I do not believe that I can represent the Faculty of Dentistry and/or its students. Therefore, attending the Meeting without knowing its agenda is risky as my personal opinion may be perverted and misrepresented as the opinion of the Faculty and/or its students.
In order to avoid speculation and disputes, I believe withdrawing from the Meeting is in the best interest of all parties. I sincerely hope that a formal meeting with sufficient details disclosed to the public can be arranged between the Council Chairman and the official student representatives or bodies of the Faculty* in the future.
*Official student representatives or bodies of the Faculty refer to the person or party authorized through election by students vote
