People's Daily slams 'politicisation' of suicides - RTHK
The overseas edition of the People's Daily newspaper has accused pro-democracy groups and figures for politicising the recent spate of student suicide cases, calling them "cold blooded".
The commentary on the pro-Beijing newspaper said suicide is a complicated issue, and youngsters in Hong Kong are facing a wide range of pressure.
It accused a number of pro-democracy groups, such as the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union, for singling out the Education Bureau and criticising it for not doing enough to tackle the problem.
The piece also slammed former Scholarism convenor Joshua Wong, and other "radical groups", such as Youngspiration and Civic Passion, for blaming the local education system for the suicides.
It said these groups have used the tragedies for their own political gains.
