Not for me, but more a general question.

With the numbers being arrested it's more and more likely (even in our expat bubbles!) that we will know of someone - maybe son or daughter of a friend of a colleague - who has been arrested. And, then you hear the story of them being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but were still arrested and are facing serious charges - often riot.

I asked my friend - who was telling me about the person who had been arrested - whether that person had a lawyer. Yes, I was told, there was a volunteer lawyer who had gone to the police station. OK, I thought, at least there is a lawyer, but what the guy needs is someone willing to devote time and energy to his case (I'm not saying the volunteer lawyer wont do it, but he/she probably has a day job as well.

So, my questions - there is legal aid in Hong Kong - does it work well?

Are there specialist criminal lawyers in Hong Kong - I know of Vidler and Co. Any others recommended?
