Thought it’d make a link to your post

A case in point, the Catering Functional Constituency represented by the infamous Tommy Cheung of Liberal Party whose mandate is based on mere 2400 catering field votes.

    Two key points:

Anyone with a food business license can register as voter.

Registration deadline is 2 April 2020.
Carol Ng mentioned in the article above that
"We need maybe another 450 unions in order to try to have the capacity to try to get more seats in different election avenues.”
Even to a local that might seem truly like nonsense as it’s not the number of unions that count but the amount of union members... or so it turns out:
The constituency is composed of 668 bodies that are trade unions of which all the voting members are employees.

Besides being a great way of organizing a well-educated workforce, I really enjoy witnessing these actual unions pissing on the United Front's facade federation parade.

Given the number of yellow cafes that seem to be around it shouldn't be too hard for them to win catering.

Registered unions can also vote for the three seats that represent the labour sector in Legco. But they have to have been in operation for at least a year before an election to secure a vote.

The Labour Department said it has received 735 applications to set up trade unions between June and February this year. But at the end of last month, 679 still had not been processed.

According to the law, all new unions have to be gazetted after their application is approved.

That means many of the newly-formed groups won't get to cast a ballot in the Legco elections in September.
