Unless I missed it none of those were international pandemics causing widespread economic and social disruption in the age of social media. I think it is a Chinese virus and I am fine with it being called a Chinese virus, but unfortunately there are a lot of serious stupid racists out there who read the Daily Mail and the like.

This is one of those yes and no things. Don’t think it’s racist, but does it enable or provoke racists? I think yes it does.

If you’ll look back at my previous posts, I wasn’t for the WHO naming shenanigans either, and don’t consider myself overly politically correct (sometimes too impatient). Anyway I’ve given my view and will be dropping it from here.

I think we should drop the whole city, region, country thing and go with something totally non political, non racial, something completely innocent. How about cartoon characters? Can't get more innocent than that.

    Winnie the Pooh virus.

Got the Hong Kong flu in 1968, killed around 1 million worldwide.

I am sticking with the politically-incorrect term "Hong Kong Flu," I earned it. Even though I was only 4, I still remember how sick I was (and how I missed the family Christmas party at my grandparents' house).
